Who we work with

AI deployment for insurance, never one-size-fits-all

Submissions, renewals, and claims without the paper chase. Files arrive already read and checked, and your people spend the day on the calls only they can make.

The Challenge

Nothing about this business is standard, and the system assumes it is.

Intake, underwriting, endorsements, adjudication, recoveries. The packet shows up in three versions that disagree, the call that settles it sits with one person, and the totals only tie out when someone proves them.

Without an agent

With an agent

01The packet

No packet arrives in one clean version.

Anything that does not match gets keyed into a side sheet, and the trail ends there.

02The coverage call

Appetite is a conversation, not a rule.

The same risk gets a different answer depending on who picks it up, and when.

With AI in the mix

The desk gets one written appetite, built from the binds and declines you already made.

57 submissions triaged
03The reserve

Nobody can say what the claim has cost.

The claim file, the ledger and the last report you sent out each hold a different total.

Capabilities

What we build into an insurance operation

Not a product menu. These are the capabilities we design, prototype, and ship inside your shop, in whatever combination the work calls for.

Document & data extraction

Every document in a submission or a claim file, turned into usable data.

  • Submissions, loss runs, schedules
  • Checked against appetite and terms
  • Written to your systems

Agentic workflows

Clearance through settlement, running start to finish.

  • Underwriting and claims handoffs
  • Approvals where you require them
  • Exceptions routed to a person

Decision support

Faster triage and adjudication, with the file already assembled.

  • Your appetite and authority, encoded
  • Evidence surfaced up front
  • Judgment stays with your team

Risk, compliance & audit

Oversight that builds its own paper trail.

  • Exceptions flagged as they happen
  • Authority limits enforced in the workflow
  • Actor, time, and reason logged

Reporting & analytics

Bordereaux and reinsurer reporting rendered from the source.

  • Built from live policy and claim data
  • Lineage on every number
  • Your team reviews, not rebuilds

Conversation & voice

Claimant, insured, and broker conversations handled in plain language.

  • Phone, email, and chat
  • Full context from your systems
  • Resolved or escalated cleanly

Your own operating platform

The interface your team has always dreamed of. It now costs less to build than to keep renting your way around it.

  • One interface, not six logins
  • No per-seat bill as you grow
  • AI inside the work, not beside it

Most firms put three or four of these to work. A Jumpstart finds which ones earn their place, on your own files, before you commit to a build.

Case study

A specialty carrier, from first notice to settled

Intake, dispatch, field work, and settlement on one operating layer

Five tools and a claims queue that ran on the supervisor's memory, rebuilt as a single system that records every step. Site visits stopped slipping, and the book grew without the back office growing with it.

Security & Compliance

Built to your controls, not around them

You already have policy language, carrier agreements, and an examiner who checks all of it. We build inside your rules. That shapes the work from day one, instead of becoming a checklist at the end.

We build to your rules

Your approval chains and record-keeping rules go in from day one. If your policy says a person signs off, the system enforces it.

Not our first rodeo

Our team has worked with personal data, SOC 2 requirements, and records a regulator can ask for. Yours won't be the first security review we've answered.

You own everything we build

The code, the accounts, and the documentation are yours. Nothing to hand back at the end, and the architecture is your IP to use forever.

Where to start

One workflow, one team, or the whole firm

Some firms arrive with one process that's breaking. Others want to rebuild how the business runs. We meet you where you are.

AI Jumpstart

A few weeks to map how a file really moves, audit your stack, your data, and your controls, and find where AI pays back. Delivered with a working prototype on your own files, before anyone commits to a build.

AI Deployment Studio

Your prototypes built into production software by a lean team that stays through launch, rollout, and your first audit on the new system. The code is yours, in your own accounts.

Questions

What firms ask us first

What kinds of insurance firms do you work with?
Carriers, MGAs and managing general underwriters, program administrators, wholesale and retail brokers, TPAs and claims administrators, reinsurers, specialty and excess and surplus lines writers, captives, warranty and service contract providers, and title insurers. The operating patterns repeat across all of them, so if your corner of insurance isn't on that list, it's very likely still a fit.
We already have a policy and claims system. Are you replacing it?
Usually not. Your policy and claims systems handle the standard risk and the standard loss well, and ripping them out is rarely the highest-value move. What we build is the layer around them: the intake and extraction that fills them, the exception paths they were never designed for, and the reporting they can't produce. Sometimes the honest answer after a Jumpstart is that the core needs replacing, and we'll tell you that. More often it's that the work happening in spreadsheets and inboxes around the core is where the time actually goes.
How do you handle policyholder data, claim files, and our next security review?
We build to your specs, inside the controls your firm already has, rather than asking you to accommodate ours. Policyholder and claimant data, retention rules, and who is allowed to open a file go into the design at the start, not onto a remediation list at the end. Switchboard does not claim certifications of its own. What we commit to is keeping the code and the accounts in your hands, and treating the audit trail as a build requirement, so the evidence is already there when the review comes.
Will AI be deciding coverage or paying claims?
Not unless you decide it should and can defend that decision. We separate the work AI is genuinely good at, like reading documents, extracting data, drafting, routing, and checking one record against another, from the coverage call and the settlement itself, which need a person and a documented reason. Your appetite and authority limits get encoded so they're applied the same way every time, and every automated action is stamped with what happened, when, and why.
We're a smaller shop. Is this sized for us?
Most of our clients run between 100 and 1,000 people, and plenty of underwriting and claims teams inside them are much smaller than that. Engagements start with a Jumpstart scoped to one workflow, one team, or the whole firm, so the first commitment is small and fixed-price. There's no wrong place to start.
