Role Overview

As our first sales hire, you'll take the reins of our founder-built sales engine and scale it in this rapidly growing market. Working directly with our founders, you'll have autonomy in shaping our growth strategy.

You’re also not just selling projects & retainers—you’ll be helping deliver AI Automation-driven solutions designed to tackle our clients’ biggest opportunities to streamline their business operations and give their teams time back.

Leveraging your thought leadership, technical and business acumen, and ability to build trust, you’ll remove objections in the sales cycle and highlight the value we bring to each client.

You’ll lead both outbound and inbound efforts. Supported by a full-time BDR, you’ll strategize modern social-selling campaigns and classic cold outreach, qualify inbound leads, and bring in our co-founders when needed to shape winning proposals and close deals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand our space: Spend time with our co-founders to learn our market, services, processes, and culture inside and out, so you can confidently represent us to prospective clients.
  • Qualify & Nurture Leads: Qualify leads to ensure they’re a strong fit for Switchboard, then nurture those relationships until the deal is closed.
  • Business Development: Generate and qualify leads, create proposals, and close both one-time strategy engagements and monthly retainers.
  • Proposal Leadership: Collaborate with co-founders and others to strategize, estimate, and present proposals for new projects, ensuring alignment with client goals.
  • Outbound Campaigns: Collaborate with co-founders to develop and execute outbound sales efforts including targeted email & social outreach that result in new leads. You'll have a full-time BDR and co-founders to help support in this.
  • Partnerships & Channels: Work with our co-founders to identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships that expand our revenue channels & growth.
  • Industry Intelligence: Track market news and trends to shape Switchboard’s go-to-market approach, value propositions, and always being able to stay two steps ahead in sales conversations.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong Sales Experience: 5+ years in sales within a consulting or agency environment, working with larger SMBs to mid-market enterprises. Bonus points if you’ve sold automation or AI services.
  • Proven B2B Consulting Success: Track record of closing professional services engagements ($20K+ projects and/or $100K+ annual retainers) and achieving annual targets above $1.5M.
  • Full-Cycle Selling: Comfortable owning the entire sales lifecycle—from lead generation and discovery, to proposals and closing. Proactive in launching social-selling campaigns and cold outreach, with a knack for building rapport quickly at the C-suite or executive level.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Skilled at list building & using CRM tools and analytics to forecast deals, measure KPIs, and refine sales processes.
  • Leadership & Growth Mindset: Interested in mentoring a small business development team (starting with one BDR), keeping them motivated, and guiding execution to scale results.

Compensation

Beyond the opportunity to help shape an ambitious firm in a rapidly growing space, you’ll receive:

  • Base Salary: $80k USD
  • Performance-Based Compensation: Additional 35–150% of base salary in commission paid quarterly, tied to new business and client retention.
  • Vacation: 3 weeks paid to start.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely with a team spread across Canada, serving clients throughout North America.
