About Switchboard

At Switchboard, we help teams transform their business operations through a combination of modern software, strong data integrations, AI automation, and workflow design, freeing them from the mundane.

As a growing, founder-led company, we're looking for teammates ready to help shape a future where work is more meaningful and teams can focus on what matters.

The Role

We help mid-market companies fix how they work, not just talk about it. We combine workflow design, modern software, data integration, and AI automation to turn messy operations into something that runs well.

As a Business Analyst, you'll be the engine behind our strategy work. You’ll work alongside our Business Systems Strategists who lead client conversations and shape recommendations. You'll tag-team translating what we learn into clear process maps, data flow diagrams, and requirements documentation that our technical teams can build from. You'll work side-by-side with Strategists daily, learning the craft of understanding how businesses operate while building the skills to eventually run the room yourself.

What you'll do

  • Document what you learn. Take messy discovery notes and turn them into polished process maps, data flow diagrams, and requirements documents. You'll provide analysis to translate what the client needs and wants into what is feasible and valuable to their business.
  • Support discovery sessions. Join Strategists in stakeholder interviews, capture what matters, and flag the gaps that need follow-up. Over time, you'll run smaller sessions yourself.
  • Map current-state processes and data. Diagram how work and data actually flows through organizations today, including the workarounds, the manual steps, and the information that moves between systems. Identify where information breaks down or gets stuck.
  • Research tools and integrations. When a client uses a platform we haven't seen before, you dig in. When we need to understand API capabilities or automation options, you research them. You bring options to the table, not just questions.
  • Maintain project artifacts. Keep requirements docs, process maps, and data models updated as projects evolve. You display flexibility with using different tools to develop project artifacts, as the tools evolve so do we.
  • Bridge strategy and delivery. Work with Project Managers and Developers to make sure what we promised and what we're building stays aligned. Catch gaps before they become surprises and help test what we build to ensure it functions as you intended.
  • Build internal resources. Help turn good projects into reusable templates and examples. Spot patterns across engagements that could make the next project faster and higher quality.

What Success Looks Like

  • Developers quote your documents, not rewrite them. Your requirements and data diagrams are clear enough that technical teams can build from them without a translation layer.
  • Your teammates know what you're working on. You communicate proactively, surface blockers early, and make collaboration easy. People aren't chasing you for updates.
  • Nothing falls through the cracks. When stakeholders mention something in passing, you capture it. When decisions change, you update the doc. When the Strategists guide you through deliverables, you execute.
  • You start running small sessions. Within 3-6 months, you're facilitating portions of discovery yourself, with a Strategist backing you up.
  • Your process maps tell the story. Someone who wasn't in the room can look at your documentation and understand how the business works and where the business is going. Your documentation is consistent in clarity and level of detail across clients.

Who we're looking for

  • 2+ years in consulting, agency, or internal ops roles where you've documented processes, gathered requirements, or supported digital transformation projects. You've seen how businesses actually run and how data and information actually flows, not just how org charts say they should.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills. You can take a rambling conversation and turn it into a clear diagram or requirements doc. You write well, organize information logically, and know how to tailor communication for different audiences.
  • Process mapping experience. You've used tools like Lucidchart, Miro, or Whimsical to diagram workflows. Formal frameworks are a plus, but clear thinking and understanding of frameworks/methodologies matters more than certification.
  • Comfortable with data and systems. You have skills and insights to map required data from current state to future/transformed state. You can look at a CRM or ERP and understand what's happening under the hood, not just the UI.
  • Cross-industry experience showing you can learn new domains quickly and get to the heart of what matters: process, people, and tools
  • Familiarity with AI and automation. You understand modern workflow automation using tools like Zapier, Make, or N8N. You understand where automation fits in a workflow and can identify opportunities for automation and AI to reduce manual work.
  • Consulting project fundamentals. You understand how client engagements work, including phases, deliverables, stakeholder management, and why clear communication matters at every step. You don't need to run projects, but you need to operate well within them.
  • Curious and detail-oriented. You ask "what happens next?" and "what if that fails?" You notice when something doesn't add up and dig until it does. Good questions are appreciated but are better with proposed solutions to bring to the Strategist for decision making.
  • Comfortable with momentum. You can juggle multiple projects, adapt when priorities shift, and stay organized without someone managing your day for you.
  • Strong Analysis and Spreadsheet Skills. Complex formulas and pivot tables should be something you’re very comfortable with and can adapt their usage to the needs of your projects. You can analyze how a business currently operates while at the same time looking to alleviate pain points and pursue opportunities that are the most valuable for the client.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on experience with SaaS platforms like HubSpot, Salesforce, Airtable, or Monday.
  • Understanding of automation platforms like Zapier, Make, or n8n.
  • Experience using AI yourself whether it’s knowing how to prompt like a pro for your own work or as far as being familiar with AI’s integration into business processes.
  • SQL for data analysis and validation.
  • Experience with PM tools (Notion is what we use but can be similar).

What you'll get

  • Variety. You'll work across industries and problem types, folks join our team to have exposure to many types of businesses, not being stuck with one forever.
  • Work that ships and is adopted. We deliver in weeks and months, not years. You'll see your work become functioning systems, not slide decks that gather dust.
  • Real stakeholder exposure. You're not stuck in a back office. You're in the meetings, learning how growing companies actually operate in this new era.
  • Learn from experienced Strategists. You'll partner closely with our Business Systems Strategists on every engagement, picking up how they think through problems, navigate client dynamics, and turn chaos into clarity.
  • A growing team. We're a founder-led company scaling quickly. No bureaucracy, no hiding. Your work matters and your growth matters.
  • Remote-first. Anywhere in North America with at least 3 hours of overlap with Pacific time.
  • Competitive pay and benefits. Three weeks off to recharge, and a culture that respects your time.
